Aid Worker Describes Myanmar

Hi Everyone,

This is Kasumi and Yui from Mr. Pals class.

Summary of story:
In Myanmar, many people need a help because of the damage by cyclone. American goverment sent aid workers to Myanmar, and donated more than 1000 supplying cases to help the victims. Especially, the mobile teams of medicine play a important role in the devastated area.

Interest:
They provide food, medicine, doctors and nourse because people can't go to hospital. There are some medical service that people can see doctor. Although these helps, there are little aids in Myanmar. In addition, They are considered to get disease because of terrible environment. It is also difficult for them to make good community.

Questions:
1, What can you do for the foreign victims?

2, What do you think Myanmar's government doesn't admit aids from another country?

Hi Kasumi and Yui,

You made a very interest post and chose a good current events topic. The only problem with your post is in asking yes/no style questions. If you ask yes/no questions, you need to follow up those questions with another question to elicit discussion.

Hi again Kasumi and Yui,

Thank you for the interesting video about the tragedy in Myanmar.

One thing that I thought was interesting in the video was the fact that the people in Myanmar are not allowed to travel to a place to get aid. They have to wait for the limited aid to be delivered.

To answer your first question is difficult. There was a push at SUAC to help by donating money. The woman in the video works for AmeriCares which is asking for donations online at: www.AmeriCares.org/myanmar However, the government in Myanmar is blocking much of the aid from being delivered to the people as your second question suggests.

To answer your second question is also difficult. I find it amazing that the Myanmar government will not help its own people. This has been a problem in Myanmar for a long time. Usually military governments are not good for people. The leaders are very selfish and want to hold on to all the power and money in their country.

My question for you is simple: Have you ever donated money to help people in need? Why or Why not?
